Make ready 2-3 big size Amla/gooseberry
Take 1-2 green chillies
Make ready 2 tsp Ginger
Prepare 1 medium size finely chopped tomato
Prepare 2-3 tsp Rasam powder
Prepare 1/2 cup Cooked tuvar dal
Take to taste Salt
Prepare 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Take 1 tsp jaggery
Make ready 2 tsp curry leaves
Prepare 2 tsp corinader leaves
Get For tempering
Get 1 tsp ghee
Get 1/2 tsp mustard Seeds
Take 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
Get pinch asafoetida
Steps to make Nellikai Rasam Amla Rasam:
Wash Amla chop it and remove the seeds. In a mixer jar grind the Amla, chilli and ginger to smooth paste adding little water.
In a kadai add the ghee,after it turns hot add the jeera, mustard seeds,hing. Now add chopped tomatoes and cook it on medium flame. After tomato turns soft add the grinded amla paste to it, mix well. Stir it on low flame.
Add turmeric powder and curry leaves. Now add the tuvar dal water to this. I add more water to dal while cooking so that this can be added to rasam which enhances the taste. Add water according to your consistency.
Add required quantity of salt to it. Add rasam powder as per your taste about 2 tsp.If you don't have rasam powder add 1tsp of pepper powder, 1and 1/2 jeera powder.Also add 1/2.tsp Daniya powder and 1/4 or even less red chilli powder for colour. All these ingredients are there in rasam powder. Allow it to cook.
Now add the cooked tuvar dal in this.Add a small amout of grated jaggery to this. As this is amla rasam we need to add Jaggery to enhance the taste.
After this rasam comes to a boil add chopped coriander leaves to it. Remove from flame and transfer to another container.
Serve this Amla Rasam with hot rice. This tastes good and is healthy.
