The ingredients needed to make Dal Palak:
  1. Get 1 cup moong dal chilka
  2. Get 2-3 cups spinach leaves chopped
  3. Make ready 2 Large tomatoes grated
  4. Get 1 1/2 tsp salt
  5. Get 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  6. Get 1/4 cup curd
  7. Prepare For the tempering
  8. Get 4-5 tbsp ghee
  9. Get 1/2 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds
  10. Make ready 4-5 cloves garlic chopped
  11. Take 1/2 inch ginger chopped
  12. Take 1 large onion chopped
  13. Take 1-2 green chilies chopped
  14. Prepare 1 tsp dhaniya (coriander)powder
  15. Prepare 1/2 tsp red chili powder optional
  16. Get Second tempering
  17. Make ready 1 tbsp ghee
  18. Get 1/4 tsp hing/asafoetida
  19. Get 1 tbsp chopped garlic
  20. Get 2-3 dry red chili broken roughly
  21. Make ready 1/2 tsp degi lal mirch powder
Instructions to make Dal Palak:
  1. Clean, wash and chop the spinach leaves. Wash the dal really well.
  2. Add the spinach, dal, grated tomatoes, salt, turmeric and 2 cups of water to a pressure cooker. Close the lid and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles. Let the pressure drop by itself. Open the lid and add the curd. mix well.
  3. Heat ghee in a pan, add jeera and let it turn golden. Add the ginger garlic and green chilies. Saute for 30 seconds.
  4. Now add the chopped onions and cook till they turn golden. Add the dhaniya powder. Add this tempering to the dal.
  5. Pour the dal in a serving bowl. Heat ghee in a tempering ladle, add the hing. Now add the garlic and saute. Finally add dry red chili and degi lal mirch. Pour it on top of the dal. serve hot with chapatis or rice.
